Scratches after two months? Nope.

September 4th, 2007 · 7 Comments

Michael DeAgonia from Computerworld tells us how his iPhone is holding up after two months of use:

And what about that screen? Mine looks as good and works as well as it did the day I brought the iPhone home. Even after two months of constant use, it looks new—no dings, scratches or worn areas have shown up yet, a testament to the overall hardware design. Yes, the glass screen gets smudged from your fingers, and from your face when you hold it up to talk. But it’s as easy to clean as any other glass surface, especially with the cleaning cloth supplied by Apple.

What about everybody else? Have you had any problems with your iphone?

Screen is definitely getting scratched. Do nothing special with my iphone either, sometimes have keys in the same pocket as the phone but doubt that’s the reason. I figure scratches are coming from something smaller and sharper. My thought is it might be some sand getting in my pockets doing the damage. Anyhow gonna get a protective screen cause have already about 10 scratches all over and causes annoying reflections.

My screen stayed scratch free for 2 months, but just last week i put it in the same pocket that my keys were in and feel a sleep stomach down and woke up with a big scratch down the middle :(

I put my iPhone face down on the table today, and when picking it up I now recall hearing a ’screeek’ sound. I didn’t take this serious and hence didn’t look what it was that caused the sound. Maybe a tiny piece of gravel carried in by my little son. Now I have a nasty 1/2 inch scratch on the side of the glass.
After less that two weeks. dammit!

I’m pretty T’d off. I keep hearing about how scratch resistant it is but apparently not for me. I just got the 3G and I’ve kept it in a leather case and treat it very gingerly. I’m very afraid of dropping it. Well, it hasn’t been a week yet but today I noticed a tiny scratch off center of the screen. It’s such an eyesore.

Ironically enough I had just asked a friend for a screen guard recommendation (2 days ago) and he said I don’t need one because his (1st gen iPhone) has been fine which is about a year old.

I’m going to post on Apple’s forum to see if maybe they’ve changed the manufacturing process for the 3Gs.

2nd day of iphone - keys in the pocket + iphone = scratched!
    i’ve done it 3 times now = 3 scratches.
guess im an idiot for doing it 3 times- but there is no wayyyy you can say the screen is scratch resistant. I rekon i’d have been luck with keeping a raw egg intact in my pocket then my iphone …

I thought I was the only dumbass able to scratch an iphone. Now I feel much better knowing we are a group of people that would rather have a scratch than using a retarded looking case
